The Gospel: The Church & Counseling This two day conference at Sojourn’s Louisville home, The 930 Art Center, will feature main sessions by noted author and speaker Paul David Tripp and five tracks led by pastors from around the country. This event will provide a vision for gospel ministry in dealing with the struggles of life. You’ll learn how counseling can be done in the church, and share how God is bringing redemptive change in this area of ministry.
Pre-Conference Session: Gospel Oxygen–The Essence of Pastoral Leadership. During this time of fellowship, pastors and ministry leaders will hear about their need for the gospel as the means for personal transformation. This session is by invitation only.
Main Session Tuesday Night: What Do You Expect? The Realities of Marriage–Marriages are filled with chaos and confusion. The gospel paints a radical vision of marriage and declares an unwavering call to fight for marriages in our churches and city. Louisville is ranked #1 in divorce (According To Business Week - read “Recession Takes Its Emotional Toll On Cities” “America’s Unhappiest Cities” and “Louisville: 17th Unhappiest City, #1 in Divorce”).
Main Session Wednesday Morning: Vision of Gospel Ministry–Who is called to gospel ministry? What does it look like to equip & mobilize the saints to do the work of the ministry? Why gospel ministry is not less than counseling but so much more as we help others to live out the gospel in community.
Main Session Wednesday Afternoon: The Deep Psychology of the Gospel–The gospel not only tackles the most difficult struggles of life but the God of the gospel overwhelms the theories and practices of modern psychology by His redeeming love. The gospel calls us to a radical life of faith, hope, and love and changes us as we strive to live out the gospel.
Main Session Wednesday Night Session: Broken Down House: How to Live Between the Already and Not Yet—The bible is very clear about the reality that we live in a terribly broken world where things don’t operate in the way they were intended. Nothing around us works in the way that it was intended to work. What does it look like to live productively in a world that’s broken? How can you have realistic expectations and live with courage and hope as God is restoring the broken down house where we all live?
In addition to the main sessions, we’ll present breakout track sessions on marriage, parenting, addictions, homosexuality, and mercy led by the following pastors:
- Marriage Track: Sojourn Community Church (Acts 29 Network)– Robert Cheong
- Parenting Track: Covenant Fellowship (Sovereign Grace Ministries) — Mark Prater and Andy Farmer
