April 2011 Redeem Marriage
Resources
On Friday and Saturday 15-16 April, 2011 the Sojourn J-town campus hosted a marriage event for all of Sojourn. Over 100 married and engaged couples came to gather as a community to redeem our vision of marriage, individual hearts, and oneness as husbands and wives. Cheong of Sojourn Community Church and his wife Karen Cheong during this conference. To download any of the mp3 files, click “Audio” then go to “File” and select “Save Page As”.

Testimonies From April 2011 Redeem: Marriage gathering
The Redeem Conference not only provided incredible teaching for both my husband and me, but also gave us many opportunities to dialogue over what we were learning and work through issues in our marriage. We discovered ways that we weren’t currently serving each other well and talked through sin and conflict that we often don’t communicate about. It was a wonderful time for us to reconnect and refocus our marriage on Christ.

Thank you so much to all who helped out with Redeem marriage conference! It was such a blessing! God used the event as a tool to help my wife and me in so many ways! We are communicating better than we ever have! God convicted me of my role as a husband to be care for and think about my wife first in our marriage. God showed me my selfishness in our marriage. As I reflected on Christ’s love for the church His bride, I saw my example for how to love my wife. Praise our gracious Father for giving us grace and strength to live the Christian life!

We are so thankful for this ministry and for the REDEEM: Marriage gathering. It was encouraging to see and hear from so many couples committed to loving each other for God’s glory! REDEEM reminded us that marriage is all about God, not us… and that in our conflict God is redeeming us!

So grateful that my wife and I decided to attend this event. We were not naive enough to think that going in this was going to fix all of the difficulties that come along with our marriage, but there were many times throughout the course of the weekend where there was truth revealed through Scripture within the context of marriage that we had not thought about or been aware of before. The time she and I got to spend together was precious, and the time alloted for ‘heart to heart’ talks with your spouse were welcomed, and convicted us that we don’t make the effort to carve more time for that in our lives at home.
The main thing we walked away with was a question. A question that I realized I don’t ask myself, or my wife enough is, “How am I ministering to my spouse through our marriage.” How am I allowing the Lord to use me to advance his Gospel message into the life of my wife through our marriage. I find myself forgetting how much of a gospel picture our marriage should be to each other and the people around us. Our marriage is not about us, but about God. How easily I forget this, and how thankful I am for the Lord to send servants that reiterated this truth through this scripture focused conference.
