God designed his family to love and care for one another in community. At Sojourn, we care for our family primarily through Group Life. Joining a community group is the best way to experience mutual love and encouragement as a family, to know that someone will listen to you, seek to understand your struggles, and journey with you through the difficulties and celebrations of life. Most of our counseling and mentoring occurs at this level as well - people to people, serving one another in love.
Our counseling ministry is purposefully integrated into Sojourn Gathered and Group Life because we do not believe a weekly one-hour counseling appointment is sufficient to journey through the difficulties of life.
Who is eligible to receive counseling?
Any person or couple who are members, members-in-process, or those who are not members of any church can receive counseling free of charge. We do not offer counseling if you are a member of another church; we believe you should ask ministry leaders in your own community to journey with you.
What’s the “next step” to request counseling if I am in a Community Group?
1. First share with your Community Group leader. You may also want to invite other trusted group members to journey with you. You will be surprised to learn when you share your struggles, others will be able to help you in the same way they have been comforted by God and others.
2. If your CG leaders are not able to help, they are instructed, with your permission, to ask for help from their Group Life Coach, who is more experienced and equipped. At this point, the Coach may get directly involved in offering care or may guide the CG leader through the process of care and counseling.
3. If additional help is needed, then the coach will ask you to submit a Counseling Request Form.
What’s the “next step” to request counseling if I am NOT in a Community Group?
1. Request to get into a Community Group through the on-line sign up form.
2. After completing the CG form, fill out the Counseling Request Form.
3. We will review your Counseling Request Form and connect you with a hand-selected CG where you will receive the immediate benefits of living life in gospel community.
4. Once you plug into the CG, you will be asked to connect with the assigned ministry leader to help you with your particular life struggle.
Can I speak to someone on Sunday after a service?
Yes, in fact we encourage you to do so! Many times, we just need someone to listen to a pressing burden and pray with us. If it is determined you still need to request counseling, then we ask you take the “next steps” described above.
